Children of Ethiopia is a 100% nonprofit organization with a purpose to bring change towards Africa through children.
The birth of Children of Ethiopia began in March 2018. The founder of Children of Ethiopia, Melat Lemma, began this organization independently. She came up with the idea to travel to Ethiopia and create small projects to complete by herself with some help from her family. Her main purpose going to Ethiopia was to see what needs to be prioritized the most to adjust future projects.
Melat raised over $3,000 before her summer trip to Ethiopia. Her intention was to purchase school supplies, hygiene products, clothes, and toys to donate towards Kidane Mehret Children’s Home (Addis Ababa), Lola Children’s Home (Mekelle), and Seeds of Africa Elementary School (Adama). After she fulfilled her small projects, she decided to use the left over donation money to purchase water and over three hundred loaves of bread to pass out to homeless people in different churches and mosques all over Mekelle and Adama. Furthermore, she was able to pass out over one hundred notebooks and pencils to underprivileged children in Adama.
Melat's future plans for Children of Ethiopia is to advocate for children to make the change that will break this continuous cycle of poverty and hunger. This organization will focus on transforming children’s lifestyles and education so that they will be given the opportunity and resources to turn their new ideas and dreams that benefits their community into reality.
