Summer of 2018 Melat Lemma visited Mekelle which is located in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. She used donation money to purchase an abundance of school supplies, hygiene products, toys, and comforters to donate to Lola Children’s Home. She was able to interview orphans that were 14-17 years of age and spent time with the kids of Lola playing soccer, playing games, and just simply talking about life. The orphans that live in Lola Children’s Home came from families that are in extreme poverty, were street children or were there from birth.
Surprisingly, Melat had a lot of donation money left over which lead her to the idea to purchase large quantities of bread and water to pass out to homeless people at different churches and mosques. Unfortunately, not every single event was recorded.
